I have a confession to make.
I have been resisting showing up on Instagram! 😬
Instagram has been my go-to space for business for the past 5-years and, if I’m being honest, it’s starting to feel….exhausting and uninspiring.
After talking to many of my clients and colleagues in the industry, they are feeling the same way too. But, there is a platform I have been spending more time on, and actually enjoying it!
LinkedIn! 🙌
Here’s why I’m making the pivot to LinkedIn. ↴
🎯 TARGET AUDIENCE:
→ My potential private Social Media Consulting clients (Marketing Managers & Business Owners) are more active on LinkedIn versus Instagram and I can connect with those decision makers much easier on this platform.
FUN FACT: LinkedIn users have twice the buying power of the average online audience.
💬 ENGAGEMENT:
→ The audience on LinkedIn is highly engaged – with 42% using LinkedIn on their desktop and eager to take in information and learn.
Compare that to Instagram or TikTok, where the majority of users are there to be distracted. Example: checking out the app while going to the washroom – don’t act like you don’t do that. 😉
💻 CONTENT:
→ The content on LinkedIn is less ‘intensive’ or ‘trendy’ – meaning, even text-only posts or photos can be incredibly effective for growth & engagement.
FUN FACT: Content on LinkedIn has longevity – I have posts from two-weeks ago still receiving comments, likes or being shown to new users!
👆These are a few of the reasons why I’m shifting my primary focus to LinkedIn!
Now, this doesn’t mean I won’t be showing up on Instagram as I’ll be repurposing content there and staying up-to-date on the latest trends and news (to share with my clients and followers), but I’ll be primarily creating content for my LinkedIn audience.

💡 How to Get Started – On LinkedIn?
Thinking about switching to LinkedIn as well (psst, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you do!) but not sure how to get started?
First, let me say if you are a Consultant, Creative, Personal Brand, Author, Service Provider (like a social media manager), Sales Manager, Photographer or Speaker, then LinkedIn is a great platform to be on to feature your work, promote your services, share personal stories, and find clients!
From my own experience, I locked in a $18,000 client from LinkedIn. I’ve also become more visible in showcasing my speaking business, leading to exciting inquires & opportunities as well. 🎤
If you’re curious to use LinkedIn for your business, the first thing I would do is: Optimize Your LinkedIn Profile! ↴
✨ 1. Profile Picture:
Make sure your face takes up 75% of the screen, that the image is sharp and well-lit, and that there is a decent contrast between your face/head and the background (tip: try removing the background in your photo and changing the background colour to a brand colour!).
✨ 2. Cover Image:
This is like a small billboard. You can showcase programs and services you offer, logos of other brands you have worked with (great for speakers or business consultants), highlight your motto or tagline, etc. Always keep the info on this image up-to-date, and ensure it’s clean and professional-looking!
✨ 3. Personal URL:
Take the time to set this up! It’s generally a quick and easy process, and looks so much cleaner and more professional than a jumbled string of letters, numbers and symbols. And, will help increase your LinkedIn profile’s discoverability on Google!
✨ 4. Professional Headline:
The key here is to think of SEO! Use SEO-rich keywords to showcase your expertise and services, and make yourself more discoverable on LinkedIn and search engines.
✨ 5. Set-Up & Link Company Page:
Quickly set-up your company page and connect it to your personal LinkedIn account.
